Blog 4: Red Death


1.      Both dogs and cats had to be killed because the Europeans believed they spread the plague.
2.      Fleas spread the plague.
3.      The fleas came from rats.
4.      Rats traveled by boat; trade routes.
5.      Over 1½ million people died.
6.      Flagellants – ripped their skin to rid themselves of sins.
7.      People carried around lowers to ward off the smell of the dead and dying.
8.      People didn't know the disease came from infected rats, they though it was a punishment from God for being wicked.
9.      Within 2 years, 25 million people died of the plague.
Villages filled with the dead were burned to contain and kill the disease.
